American citizens in Sydney are "strongly encouraged" to review their personal security plan and to maintain a high level of vigilance as a hostage crisis unfolds in Australia`s largest city, American officials said Monday after the U.S. Consulate was partly evacuated. "U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to review your personal security plan, remain aware of your surroundings including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates," the Consulate said in an emergency message.
"Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security." A Consulate spokeswoman said its building had been partly evacuated as a precaution, leaving only essential personnel.
