BIODIVERSITY HAS TO BE PRESERVED TO MAINTAIN THE ECOSYSTEMS------------------------------------------------- Biodiversity is the definition as stated by WWF : “Biological diversity ““ or biodiversity ““ is the term given to the variety of life on Earth. It is the variety within and between all species of plants, animals and micro-organisms and the ecosystems within which they live and interact.“ It means biodiversity comprises all the millions of different species that live on our planet, as well as the genetic differences within species. It also refers to the multitude of different ecosystems in which species form unique communities, interacting with one another and the air, water and soil.“ according to encyclopedia of biodiversity (Source: Swingland, I. R. 2001. Biodiversity, Definition of. Pp. 377-391 in Encyclopedia of Biodiversity, Ed S. A. Levin. Academic Press, San Diego.) Source: http://www.wwf.org.au/our_work/saving_the_natural_world/what_is_biodiversity/---------------------------------------- Natura 2000 is a European network of natural sites identified for the quality, rarity or the fragility of the species and their habitat. This network is based legally on two directives: the so-called 'Birds', adopted in 1979, and the directive "Habitats, fauna, flora" adopted in 1992. The objective of the mission Natura 2000 is to reconcile human activities and commitments for biodiversity in synergy using the principles of sustainable development, to improve the conservation of sites, species and habitats. For this matter, it mobilises collaborative tools: steering committee and objectives document for each site, contractualisation via the establishment of contracts and charters Natura 2000.------------------------------------------------------------------------------Indeed, cooperation between local actors has just ended in April 2015. Now, 35 Natura 2000 sites now have a document that defines the operational goals restoration and management measures of Community interest habitats. DOCOBs documents are available on the website of the DRIEE: http://www.driee.ile-de-france.developpement-durable.gouv.fr/brochure-natura-2000-en-ile-de-france-preservons-a2342.html Thus, the island region of France (See Article http://www.newsrama.uspa24.com/bericht-3076/le-nouveau-grand-paris-is-a-huge-ambitious-project.html) include: 10 sites classified under the 'Birds Directive', 25 under the Directive "habitat, fauna and flora." These include sites in the Paris 40 natural habitats and 78 animal and plant species of European interest. The DRIEE has a steering role of Natura 2000 policy in the Ile de France. The Natura 2000 network contributes to the goals supported by the reconquest of law for biodiversity.------------------------For more information see :www.ile-de-france.gouv.fr, http://www.driee.ile-de-france.developpement-durable.gouv.fr
